"Back To Black"

He left no time to regret
Kept his dick wet
With his same old safe bet
Me and my head high
And my tears dry
Get on without my guy

You went back to what you knew
So far removed from all that we went through
And I tread a troubled track
My odds are stacked
I'll go back to black

We only said goodbye with words
I died a hundred times
You go back to her
And I go back to...
I go back to us

I love you much
It's not enough
You love blow and I love puff
And life is like a pipe
And I'm a tiny penny rolling up the walls inside

We only said goodbye with words
I died a hundred times
You go back to her
And I go back to...

* Amy Jade Winehouse (14 Sep 1983 – 23 July 2011) was a British singer & songwriter. She is known for her deep, expressive contralto vocals & her eclectic mix of musical genres, including soul, r&b & jazz.

She signed to Simon Fuller's 19 Management in 2002 & soon recorded a number of songs before signing a publishing deal with EMI. Her debut album, Frank, released in 2003. Many of the album's songs were influenced by jazz &, apart from 2 covers, were co-written by her. Frank was a success in the UK & nominated for the Mercury Prize. The song Stronger Than Me won the Ivor Novello Award for Best Contemporary Song.

She released Back to Black, in 2006, which went on to become an international success & one of the best-selling albums in UK history. At the 2007 Brit Awards she received the award for British Female Solo Artist. The song Rehab won an Ivor Novello Award. She won 5 Grammys, tying the record for the most wins by a female artist in a night & becoming the 1st British woman to win 5 Grammys.

She was plagued by drug & alcohol addiction. She died of alcohol poisoning on 23 July 2011, at the age of 27. After her death, Back to Black became the UK's best-selling album of the 21st century. VH1 ranked her 26th on their list of the 100 Greatest Women in Music.

* Back to Black is a song by English singer & songwriter Amy Winehouse, released on 30 Apr 2007 by Island Records as the 3rd single from her album (2006). The song was written by Amy & Mark Ronson & produced by the latter. It was inspired by her relationship with Blake Fielder-Civil, who had left her for an ex-girlfriend.

Back to Black received universal acclaim by critics, who generally praised its throwback sound to girl groups from the 1960s. It was included on several compiled year & decade-end lists of the best in music & considered to be one of her signature songs. Many artists covered the song; most notably, Beyoncé & André 3000 covered it for the soundtrack of the 2013 film The Great Gatsby.

The track was recorded in three studios.

Writers of Rolling Stone magazine placed it at no98 on their list of the 100 best songs of the '00s, praising Amy's trademark stormily soulful vocals & the updated sensibility & prior to its 2021 article, the track is placed at no79 on their lists of 500 Greatest Songs Of All Time.

As of Sept 2014, Back to Black has sold 340.000 copies in the UK & is Winehouse's 3rd best-selling single in that country. In America, due to strong digital sales of the single over the years, it was certified platinum for over 1 million digital sales by the RIAA in Jan 2015.
