No one expects an accident. But we expect the very best from Polestar 1, and have to test how its class-leading safety systems behave in a real-world car crash. Computer models and simulations can only take you so far, so we took our hybrid performance coupe to our specialised 157m test track and propelled it at speed into a concrete wall. 12 cameras recording at 1000 fps captured every slither of splintering carbon fibre in slow motion. And while Polestar 1 might have come off worse for wear, the safety systems all performed perfectly. We’ve never been happier to see a car crash.
