Can Confucius Save the World? with Daniel Bell and WANG Pei, and WANG Jianbao, 5.6.20

video thumbnail
A virtual program from China Institute. China Institute has been informing the public about China for almost 100 years, through arts and culture, business programs, and classroom learning. We will continue to live our mission, no matter the medium, on every platform where our community gathers, to share, grow, and learn together.

About the Program:

The teachings of Confucius have made a comeback in China, and, according to Daniel Bell, it has the potential to be a beneficial force in the rest of the world. Bell’s writing on what he describes as China’s meritocracy has stirred heated debate among academic circles. Drawing on a new book Just Hierarchy: Why Social Hierarchies Matter in China and the World, Bell and WANG Pei discuss, with WANG Jianbao of Cheung Kong Graduate School of Business in Beijing, that Confucius-inspired hierarchies can help deal with the ongoing health crisis and other modern global challenges.

This virtual program is part of China Institute's 'Beyond COVID-19' Program Series and was held on May 6, 2020. The program was co-presented with Cheung Kong Graduate School of Business (CKGSB).

Please note: At 6:45 in the video, we incorrectly reference that Tu Weiming has passed away. He has not.
