STORYLINE:
An Israeli airstrike hit the area around Al Aqsa Hospital in Gaza City on Saturday after the health facility was warned to evacuate.

The airstrike struck the family home of Abu Asad, some 200 meters (yards) from the hospital where Palestinian Red Crescent crews operate.

Witnesses said the attack killed 12 Palestinians in the household and trapped another five people under the rubble.

It was one in a barrage of heavy airstrikes on Gaza City and northern Gaza early Saturday as Israel continues to intensify its bombardment two weeks after Hamas' unprecedented Oct. 7 attack that killed 1,400 Israelis.

The Hamas-run Ministry of Health has reported over 4,000 Palestinians killed in the Israeli aerial campaign.

That includes their death toll of 471 killed in the al-Ahli Hospital explosion that Hamas has blamed on Israel and Israel has blamed on an errant Palestinian Islamic Jihad rocket.

The siege and bombardment of Gaza has crushed some 30% of all buildings in the strip and pushed the health system to collapse.
