Barry is Professor of Comparative Politics and Chair of the Department of Political Science at the University of Pittsburgh. His work has focused on political, governance, economic, and military systems in Latin America with specific concentration on Brazil. He is a Fellow of the Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars; has been an economic advisor for U.S. Representative Les Aspin; has taught at the University of New Mexico, the University of California, Berkeley, and Washington University; and is a member of the Editorial Board for Latin American Research Review and Journal of Politics. He has authored four books and more than 50 papers on Latin America and has been a visiting scholar at the University of Brasilia and the University Research Institute of Rio de Janeiro. Barry earned his B.A. and Ph.D. in Political Science and Comparative Politics from Stanford University.
