Does Drinking Green Tea Cause Fat Loss? |
|
Evidence suggests that green tea extracts can cause fat loss in humans.
Green tea is a good source of catechins, which are polyphenolic phytochemicals that may have appetite regulatory and fat burning properties. Green tea also contains caffeine, which may have fat burning properties. The L-theanine in green tea may also contribute to the fat burning effect of green tea. Current evidence suggests that both capsules of green tea extract and drinking green tea, both can cause significant fat loss. The chemicals in the green tea capsules in this study were: 0.24mg gallic acid 4.09mg catechin 28.86mg caffeine 33.58mg EGCG 9.28mg epicatechin gallate (ECG) Subjects took one 250 mg capsule three times per day with food. They lost significantly more body fat and weight than subjects not taking green tea capsules. Study length was 12 weeks.
