How can we heal democracy? | Anja Wyden Guelpa | TEDxLausanne |
|
Over the last months, we faced the Brexit referendum and the election of Donald Trump. It pointed out that democracy must innovate to better engage its citizens: the resigned, the distanced, the angry… and those who are already discussing and experimenting the democracy of tomorrow: alternative electoral methods, open source, transparency... But innovation is not easy. We have to hack the public sector. Switzerland, as a pioneer in direct democracy and e-voting, can be the laboratory of a renewed democracy.
Since the beginning of her career as project manager, Anja has been an innovation enthusiast and strongly believes that change is the natural order of things. In 2009, she was the first woman to be elected Chancellor of State in Geneva and was reelected in 2013 for a second term. In this position, Anja manages transversal issues and projects related to the modernization of the administration and aims both at improving the efficiency of the State administration and turning public policy challenges into opportunities. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx |
