How COVID-19 is Shining the Light on Institutionalized Racism |
![]() |
The recent pandemic has been difficult for all of us, but particularly difficult for communities of color, especially the African American and Native American Indian communities. We know that this is not an anomaly. Health disparities in the United States have been a persistent problem from the time they have been tracked. This presentation will look at how the systems and structures of our society have proved fertile ground for the virus to spread in these historically under-served communities, what we can learn from this about how the same dynamics impact our organizations, and explores some options about what we can do about it.
Outcomes: 1. Participants will get a sense of how the virus is impacting communities of color 2. Participants will understand the complex web of systemic racism and many of the ways it contributes to the proliferation of the disease 3. Participants will see how some of these same factors impact organizational dynamics and learn how they can approach addressing them. |
