It might look like a hatchback, but Infiniti is marketing the front wheel drive Q30 as a crossover – so somewhere been a hatch and a small SUV. It's very similar in size to the Mercedes-Benz A-Class – mainly because it's built on the same platform, thanks to a tech sharing arrangement between the two companies. The Q30 also uses engines from the A-Class, including a 1.6-litre turbo petrol, a two litre turbo petrol and a 2.1 litre turbo diesel, all matched to a seven-speed dual clutch transmission. Even though Infiniti is calling the new Q30 a crossover, it's more of a city slicker at heart. Even though Infiniti is calling the new Q30 a crossover, it's more of a city slicker at heart. The Q30 feels like a proper little luxury car, despite its small size. The seats are placed higher in the car, making it easy to hop in and out, and it's very quiet and composed on the road. The base model GT is definitely softer and slower than the mid-spec Sports, too, which is probably our pick of the range after our first taste. The team at Infiniti knows it needs to sell more cars to gain more traction locally. The Q30 is the first in a coming wave of new produicts that might help them do just that.
