video thumbnail
Today’s video is about activities that are easy for you to do with your pre-schoolers at home. There are amazing Montessori activities, that however, require more specific tools or time on your side to prepare for your child - these are great, however, I want to show you some thing you could do with your little once that are easy.

There are 4 main areas of the Montessori curriculum are, Practical Life or Everyday Living Skills, Sensorial or learning through the senses, Language and Mathematics. The fifth curriculum area is Culture.

Sensorial activities: In the Montessori approach to education, it is understood that children build their understanding of the world through sensory experience. Therefore it is important that children are provided with every opportunity to develop and educate their senses.

The purpose and aim of Sensorial work is for the child to acquire clear, conscious, information and to be able to then make classifications in his environment. Montessori believed that sensorial experiences began at birth. Through his senses, the child studies his environment. Through this study, the child then begins to understand his environment. The child, to Montessori, is a “sensorial explorer”.

Practical Life - Montessori observed that children wanted to help in the upkeep of their own environment. She then developed practical life activities. This can be activities that adults do every day that children see and may want to imitate. It can be as simple as sweeping, mopping and dusting, or as complex as washing dishes, or clothes. You don’t have to have a special broom to allow your child to engage into practical life activities - Children like to clean up.

Hope you'll enjoy these simple Montessori inspired activities.
