Kapoor and Sons is out in the cinemas this weekend and here’s our review. The film stars Fawad Khan, Sidharth Malhotra and Alia Bhatt and is directed by Shakun Batra and produced by Karan Johar.



Shakun’s last film Ek Main Aur Ekk Tu was also produced by Karan but failed to get any attention whatsoever.



This time around, Shakun narrates the story of the dysfunctional Kapoor family that is brought together after the patriarch (played by Rishi Kapoor) insists that he wants to see them in one single photo frame one last time before he kicks the bucket.



Fawad and Siddharth play the estranged brothers. Ratna Pathak Shah and Rajat Kapoor are the bickering couple whose marriage is on the rocks and Rishi Kapoor does a darned good job at playing the gramps! Alia comes along as a breath of fresh air in a house filled with misgivings and frustrations but also adds to the tension between the two brothers, both of whom are much in love with her.



Kapoor and Sons is not your typical Karan Johar film. Don’t expect mansions and actors arriving in expensive choppers but do expect a great deal of drama and moments that drive home the Dharma philosophy: It’s all about loving your family.



Fawad Khan has come a long way since his performance in the acclaimed Khuda Kay Liye. He is dreamy, sexy, cute and hot all at the same time. Siddharth and Alia’s on-screen chemistry receives our two thumbs up as do their individual performances. Rishi Kapoor is a whole lot of fun. And what can we say about the two brilliant actors, Rajat Kapoor and Ratna Pathak Shah, that hasn’t already been said?!



Set in Coonoor, the charming hill station of Tamil Nadu, Kapoor and Sons has all the makings of a good family film and one that must be watched with a box of tissues.



We’ll go with four out of five stars for Kapoor and Sons, this week’s charming gem of a film.
