Piton de la Fournaise Volcano Eruption Update; New Eruption Begins, Fountains of Lava |
|
On the morning of September 19th, 2022, a new volcanic eruption began at the Piton de la Fournaise volcano offshore of Madagascar on Reunion island. This created a series of lava fountains which reached up to 100 feet or 30 meters in height. Lava then fell back to the ground and slowly flowed to the southeast. As a whole, Piton de la Fournaise is a massive highly fascinating shield volcano which has produced 3 large caldera forming eruptions. This video will discuss the ongoing eruption, how long it might last, and what is likely to happen next.
