Indications from Donetsk and Bakhmut appear to show the long-awaited Ukrainian counteroffensive is underway. Some of Ukraine’s most elite military units, trained and equipped by NATO, are at the forefront of the assault, according to reports.
The Ukrainian military leadership is throwing elite units into the fray with the goal of finding and taking advantage of Russian weaknesses. Analysts say that once a gap has been opened up, Kyiv will field additional forces to try and create an operational breakthrough.
