কোনো জাতির ইতিহাসে খাদ্যসংস্কৃতি একটা গুরুত্বপূর্ণ দিক। আর যে কোনো ক্ষেত্রেই উৎসব-উদযাপনে বিশেষ ভূমিকা নেয় এই খাওয়াদাওয়া। বাঙালির বিবাহও তার ব্যতিক্রম নয়। আজ বাঙালিদের বিয়ের মেনুর সঙ্গে আমরা পরিচিত, কিন্তু কিছুদিন আগেও নব্বই দশকে এমনটা ছিল না। কিন্তু যদি আরও পিছনে যাওয়া হয়? আজ থেকে পাঁচশ বা হাজার বছর আগে! তখন কেমন ছিল বাঙালির বিয়ের ভোজ? কী ছিল বাঙালির প্রধান খাদ্য? প্রাচীন কালে বাঙালির বিয়েতে বাঙালি কী মাংস খেত, কী মাছ খেত? কেমন ছিল প্রাচীন বাঙালির মিষ্টি? নৈষধচরিত, মনসামঙ্গল, চণ্ডীমঙ্গল, কৃত্তিবাসের রামায়ণ, কাশীরাম দাশের মহাভারত ইত্যাদি গ্রন্থ ঘেঁটে খোঁজার চেষ্টা করলাম প্রাচীন বাঙালির বিবাহভোজ। অবশ্যই নীহাররঞ্জন রায়ের ‘বাঙ্গালীর ইতিহাস’ এক্ষেত্রে সহায়ক হয়েছে। আপনাদের কেমন লাগলো কমেন্টে জানাবেন। ভালোলাগলে শেয়ার করার অনুরোধ রইল।

In the history of any nation, food culture is an important aspect. In any event, feasting plays a special role in celebrations. Bengali weddings are no exception. Today, we are familiar with the Bengali wedding menu, but it wasn't the same in the nineties. But what if we go further back? Five hundred or a thousand years ago! What was a Bengali wedding feast like then? What was the main food for Bengalis? What meat or fish did Bengalis eat at weddings in ancient times? How was the Bengali sweet then? I tried to explore the ancient Bengali wedding feast by delving into texts like 'Naishadha-charita,' 'Mansa-mangal,' 'Chandi-mangal,' Krittivasa's 'Ramayana,' and Kashiram Das's 'Mahabharata.'
