The story of Helen Keller and her compassionate, dedicated teacher, Anne Mansfield Sullivan, was made famous by this very autobiography, 'The Story of My Life', as well as adaptations for film/theater (The Miracle Worker). Helen's birthplace in West Tuscumbia, Alabama, is now a museum and sponsors an annual "Helen Keller Day". Her June 27 birthday is commemorated as Helen Keller Day in Pennsylvania. She was recognized by a presidential proclamation from U.S. Pres. Jimmy Carter, and is on a U.S. quarter coin.
