What it costs the global economy to exclude people with disabilities | Rasak Adekoya | TEDxMaitama

According to the WHO, there are over a billion people living with disabilities globally. These people are most discriminated against in their workplaces and other spheres of life. There have been dialogues to pass laws to improve the accessibility of products and opportunities for disabled persons across the world however the implementation has been dependent on each country’s law enforcement mechanisms. In his talk, Rasak Adekoya took the audience through the story of how he lost his sight while in active work, how he was fired due to his disability, and how every other company he applied to, rejected him. His story is just a small part of what several individuals are experiencing across the world. However, he derived passion through his story and thus went ahead to establish projects to support the economic empowerment of people with disabilities in Africa. Rasak Adekoya is a social development and communication expert with more than a decade professional work experience. He currently work as the Programme Development Advisor at Sightsavers, technically supporting economic empowerment of persons with disabilities in African countries. Currently, he is the Speaker of the Nigeria Disability Parliament, Convener of the Nigeria Business and Disability Network, Co-founder of African Volunteering Week and Founder of 360Connect. Rasak is an author of 4-books, a One Young World Ambassador and an Ashoka change maker scholar.
