Opel Astra 1.6T Sport Test Review |
|
#Opel was one of the original players in the #HotHatch segment, who can forget the GSI models of yesteryear.
This is the new #AstraSport and while it may no longer qualify as a HotHatch, it certainly does fall into the middle category that I call a #WarmHatch. Before you discount this description, this means everyday drivability and usability. 147kW and 280Nm in a C-segment, practical 5 door hatch bodyshell leaves nothing lacking. Add in the extra safety and luxury spec, especially with the range-topping model. Standard items include Opel's intelligent lighting system, lane departure and blind spot warning. Touchscreen with navigation and leather trim with sunroof to mention but a few. Many SA buyers have been concerned about the future of Opel in the country, personally based on the information that they will be adding at least 7 new models to the range in 2019 tells me that they are here to stay. The test car was equipped with a very slick and smooth 6 speed manual gearbox. For me, the news that an auto version is coming next year could be the cherry on top. Finally, at a price of just under R450 000 the 1.6T Sport is a definite contender in this market segment |
