This is a sports betting 101 concept that is important for all beginning sports bettors to understand. Before placing a bet, the most important thing a sports bettor can do is calculate the vig %, and the no-vig fair odds. Matt is a mathematically profitable sports bettor who is located in Virginia. In this video he details one of his sports betting strategies of Positive Expected Value betting, and removing the vig from your bets. Matt provides the sportsbook business model and how sportsbooks make money in this video. The way they do this is by charging a vig, or vigorish, also known as juice. Instead of charging users a transaction fee, they instead juice the odds and make their money that way. Sportsbooks make money through the "juice" (also called "vig" or "house edge"). Backing out "fair" odds from these markets is the key to successful sports betting. You want to beat the "fair" implied odds from the OddsJam Perfect Line, which gets odds from the sharpest sportsbook in the world. Beating the no-vig odds from sharp sportsbooks will mean that all of your sports bets have a higher probability of having positive closing line value, allowing you to consistently beat the sports betting market and make money in the long run. This is the concept of Positive EV betting- calculating the true line of the sharpest book in the world, and placing bets with more favorable odds than that. This is how you can make money betting on sports. Any questions?
