*I want to make it very clear that I don’t mean that Japan should immediately remove all policies irresponsibly. Neither do think that the elderly are intentionally making the younger generations suffer. What I’m trying to explain in this short video is simply the situation the current situation of Japan, regardless of whether it’s good or bad.

As a Japanese YouTuber
living in Kyoto, Japan,
I have received hundreds of angry messages asking me…

"When is Japan going to be opening its borders?!?!"

There are two things I want to say about this.

1. I’m on your side

Even though about 89% are supporting the current travel ban policies, there are those who are against it and I am one of them.

I know much about the families who have not been able to reunite and the students and workers who are waiting forever for their chance to enter Japan. I will be more than happy to be able to see people from overseas enjoying Japan and to work in the tourism industry like I used to.

2. Japan is an aged island nation

Japan is the world's most aged society with an average age being 47.4 years old. It is said that in 2025, ⅓ of the population will be 65 or older and ¼ will be 75 or older. Which means politicians will always try to satisfy the elderly to gain popularity and votes.

Also, most people have never left Japan before (and never will), and they can’t imagine that there’s actually a world outside their small island.

So whenever Japan makes any irrational decisions, remember that the fate of this country depends on the majority of the whole population, which is basically a huge nursing home.

I do not want to say this, but please do not expect the borders to fully open anytime soon. I would advise you to plan your future thinking it never will.
