video thumbnail
The South African Trade Union Federation (SAFTU) has vowed to shut down the country today with their national strike.
Saftu, is currently the second largest trade union federation in the county and called upon their approximately 88-thousand members and the rest of South Africans to down their tools.
The trade union objects to the proposed R20 an hour minimum wage agreement. The National Minimum Bill, the Labour Relations Bill and the Basic Conditions of Employment Bill are also expected to be passed on the 1st of May.
SAFTU refers to the minimum wage bill as the "poverty bill" and says it will in no way improve people's lives but it leaves them trapped in poverty.
Joining us is Zwelinzima Vavi, Saftu's General-Secretary.
