Shortcuts app or Siri Shortcuts is a dream come truth this is the reason why I can’t leave apple. Today we are going to be taking a look at shortcuts.


Shortcuts is a 100% free app that comes on iPhone, iPad and Mac. Siri Shortcuts app can do a lot of powerful things but before we get to deep into the weeds let’s talk about the basics.

Shortcuts App Overview

To keep it really simple, shortcut comes down to 2 things really.

1. You take some type of data and doing something with it. The data could be numbers, images, text, colors, etc…

Once you have that data, what do you want do with your data? In shortcuts this is called actions.


2. Action: this is what do you want shortcuts app to do for you? This could be a simple as send a text message or save to file.

In shortcuts we are only limited by the available actions and we have some third party apps we can use to get more actions such as tools box pro.

Creating Your First Shortcut

The best way to learn shortcuts is by creating your first shortcut. Inside this getting started with siri shortcuts section we are going to be looking at how to create quick text messages.

This will allow you to get a first hand look at how to use shortcuts. We going to keep this as simple as possible because it’s not about complexity its about learning the essentials.

Shortcut gallery is another cool place you can go to learn more about shortcuts if you know what you want but not sure how to make it yet.

Plus, it’s fun looking around in the gallery just to see what they have or if anything new has come out.

Siri Shortcut Beginner Ideas

The biggest idea I can give you when it comes to creating shortcuts is by heading over to the shortcuts app finding an app you use all the time and looking at the actions.

The actions let you know what you can do with the app, which I have found this to be the most useful and helpful when I was first starting to create shortcuts.

The best shortcuts are based around a problem you want to fix.
