Dan Grant (SFS’96), former Deputy Assistant Administrator in the Office of Afghanistan and Pakistan Affairs at USAID, discusses his work in engagement and stabilization in Afghanistan as well as his take on recent events surrounding the United States' withdrawal from Afghanistan and moving forward.
SFS ONLINE & ON TOPIC is a webinar series that brings together faculty and alumni experts from the School of Foreign Service in a virtual format to discuss some of the most critical global issues of our day. The series is hosted by Dr. Anthony C. Arend (SFS'80). Dr. Arend graduated from the School of Foreign Service in 1980 and has been a member of the faculty for over thirty years. He is a Senator on the Board of Governors of the Georgetown University Alumni Association. About the Guest Speaker: Dan Grant (SFS'96) is the former Deputy Assistant Administrator in the Office of Afghanistan and Pakistan Affairs at USAID, and specialized in post-conflict stabilization and economic diplomacy and engagement. Prior to his appointment to USAID, he worked as an international affairs consultant for the U.S. State and Defense Departments, and lectured for the NATO Defence College and the U.S. Naval Postgraduate School. He was a fellow at the American Security Project (ASP), a think tank founded by U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry and U.S. Secretary of Defense Chuck Hagel. Prior to his consulting work, he worked extensively in the field in a variety of post- and current-conflict countries, including Afghanistan, Iraq, Kosovo, and Bosnia. Particular highlights of his time overseas include overseeing operations for the Afghan currency exchange, and working on the Afghan Presidential and Constitutional Loya Jirgas. He is a graduate of the London School of Economics graduate school and Georgetown University’s Walsh School of Foreign Service. |
