China’s envoy to France Lu Shaye has stoked a row by questioning the sovereignty of former Soviet states, including Ukraine. China, a Russia ally that fancies itself as a potential mediator between Kyiv & Moscow, has distanced itself from the comment. But the remark plays into the aggressive ‘wolf-warrior’ diplomacy Beijing has championed in the wake of Covid.
