What can we do about natural resource decline driving poverty? | Sebastian Scott | TEDxLusaka

video thumbnail
Africa is facing complex social, economic and environmental problems - requiring solutions that fit the African context and potentially contribute to sustainable rural development. In this talk, Sebastian proposes that regenerative agriculture, farmer managed natural regeneration (FMNR), planned grazing, and community management of natural resources can be used together to change the current trajectory. Though Sebastian Scott began a career in rural development, in 2001, he took the unorthodox route of becoming a ‘small-scale, hand-hoe farmer’ in order to learn the art of agriculture in-depth.

He continues to farm and researches sustainable farming in Kafue.

Sebastian also works for the Grassroots Trust, an NGO that aims to empower communities with regenerative natural resource management skills. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx
