Schizoaffective disorder is a chronic mental health condition characterized by symptoms of schizophrenia, like hallucinations or delusions, and symptoms of a mood disorder, such as mania and depression.

This condition is made up of two different disorders.

The "schizo" refers to the psychotic symptoms of schizophrenia, which can affect the way a person thinks, acts, and expresses their emotions, while the "affective" refers to mood disorders or severe changes in mood, energy, and behavior.

It is crucial to understand that while there is no cure for this condition, learning how to manage symptoms can be life-changing for someone struggling.

It is believed that there's a connection between neurotransmitters and symptoms of schizophrenia. Evidence also suggests that it may be hereditary. However, risk factors of Schizoaffective disorder can be environmental as well as stressful situations, emotional trauma as well as viral infections.
