Climate art increases engagement in the climate crisis. | Quinn MacAskill | TEDxYouth@Moncton |
|
Quinn MacAskill will speak about the important role that climate art can play in the climate crisis. She will explore how climate art can pull people into the cycle of engagement in the climate crisis and provide a personal example of climate art and describe how it has helped her realize the power of climate art in inspiring people to take action. Quinn is a 13 year-old living in Sackville, NB who attends Marshview Middle School. She has many interests including reading, drawing, soccer, basketball, playing the fiddle, and from a young age she has been a very keen writer. Quinn also loves nature, climbing trees, gardening, hiking, camping, and canoeing. Stemming from this love of nature is her strong passion for the environment. She is part of her school’s environment club that won the ‘Youth Citizen of the Year’ Award in Sackville for making Marshview the first school in NB to have a three-stream waste sorting system.
Her passion for the environment has recently been propelled further by the international youth climate strike movement. While helping to organize climate strikes in Sackville, Quinn realized the need to creatively engage people. She had combined her passions for writing and the environment, and crafted a poetry slam, a call to action for others, and has realized the power of climate art for motivating people to take on the climate crisis. The Tedx Moncton event will provide an opportunity to share this information to a broader audience, to engage people, and to help make a difference in the climate crisis. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx |
