Life lessons from innovators changing the sex industry | Madeline Toubiana | TEDxUAlberta |
|
Madeline Toubiana shares stories from innovators in the sex industry, and outlines a tool kit of lessons she learnt from these innovators on how to build a radically different relationship with our bodies. Dr Madeline Toubiana is Assistant Professor of Strategy, Entrepreneurship and Management at the University of Alberta and the A.F. Collins Chair of Business at the University of Alberta. She has been titled the Western Academy of Management Ascendant Scholar and was a selected member of #thinklist30, a list of the 30 most influential female scholars on social media around issues of responsible business. She has dedicated her career to exploring processes of social change, with a specific focus on entrepreneurship, emotions and extreme stigmatization. She has worked with those just released from prison struggling with addiction, taxi-drivers facing increased stigma due to the arrival of Uber, immigrants, and people living with debilitating illness. Having worked with female and transgender innovators in the sex industry for the past seven years, she wants to share their stories. These workers are changing the sex industry from within, and we want to spread their stories beyond the borders of the industry. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx
