Debunking the Myth of the Left and Right Brain | Matthew Wang | TEDxYouth@MVHS

video thumbnail
Matthew Wang aims to debunk the myth between the left and right brain thinking. People often believe that they only possess talent on one side or the other. One is either left brained, logical, or right brained, creative. People often avoid activities in their perceived weak side because they tend to be wary of discomfort. "Debunking the Myth of the Left and Right Brain" highlights how everyone must learn to accept the unknown in order to tap into new talents. Matthew Wang is a spirited and hardworking senior at Mission Vista High School. Publishing a biology paper at UCSD, starting a non-profit baking business, and being featured in the San Diego Magazine as an influential and inspiring high schooler for his advocacy about Kawasaki Disease, Matthew is somewhat of a science guy. He is fascinated by the field of Infectious Diseases and Neuroscience and hopes to one day become a Pediatric Cardiologist. On the side, he enjoys playing and teaching tennis, surfing with friends, and exploring new hiking trails with his family. A secret talent that nobody knows about is that Matthew is a baking wizard, who loves making wedding cakes and french desserts in his free time. To say Matthew has a sweet tooth is an understatement, especially when it comes to french macaroons. At the end of the day, he hopes to push others to step out of their comfort zone, find new hobbies and passions, and ultimately inspire people to make a difference in this world. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx
