Sustainable Practices in Fashion | Aarushi Gupta | TEDxYouth@TISB

video thumbnail
What is the true impact of the clothes we wear on the environment? Shorter trend cycles and prioritizing quantity over quality have created an industry that is unsustainable in the long term. Sourcing raw materials, production methods and disposal of garments are different stages in the manufacturing of garments where we can implement responsible practices, combined with changes in consumption patterns. Aarushi goes through different case studies taking different approaches to build the path to a responsible fashion industry in the future, where sustainability is the core practice rather than an afterthought.
Aarushi is an 11th grade student at TISB with a passion for socio-political and economic issues that she discovered through MUN. She is interested in finding practical ways to integrate sustainable practices into our daily lives. With Gen Z’s characteristic commitment to self-expression through fashion, she hopes to start conversations about the ethics of the clothes that we wear. She believes that transparency is the first step towards building a green slow fashion industry. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx
