Forensic Bloodstain Age Determination: A Bioanalytical - Chemometrics Approach in CSI | ePoster 4

video thumbnail
Bloodstains at a crime scene are one of the most valuable pieces of biological evidence in forensic investigations. They can be utilised for DNA testing to validate a perpetrator's identity or reconstruct an incident timeline. However, incorporating bloodstains to measure the time interval when a crime happened is yet impossible. From a forensic standpoint, a reliable age approximation of a crime that occurred allows for validating witnesses' testimony, reducing the suspects' pool, and evaluating alibis.
