Basic concept of Cloud Computing

What is cloud computing?
Cloud computing is a type of Internet-based computing that provides shared computer processing resources and data to computers and other devices on demand.

Why do we need cloud computing?
When we buy new servers for an infrastructure, that has to be in the datacenter with proper rack mounting and good power source. Lot of efforts involved in buying a servers, installations, configurations, patching the servers regularly and setting up in the network and maintaining the infrastructures. This more expensive and require more efforts.
When you go with cloud, everything comes as a service very easily. It is more cheaper, more effective and much faster. So no need to focus on the hardware and maintaining the infrastructure. We save lot of time and money.

Example:
You started new company. Your new company has a website which is hosted on your server.
Over a period, lot of users are visiting your website at the same time, which causes a poor performance or encountering problems. So you will lose your website popularity and business productivity.
How this can be fixed?
By increasing the memory, CPU and other resources. This is again going to be a big task.
But when we have a hosted our website on cloud online, we can scale up or scale down the resources when we need which we call it as ON DEMAND.

Types of cloud computing
Cloud computing is usually described in one of two ways. Cloud deployment model based on the cloud location, or on the service that the cloud is offering.
Each type of deployment method and cloud service provides you with different levels of control, flexibility, and management.
Understanding the differences between these will help you to decide what set of model and services are right for your needs.

Based on a cloud location, we can classify cloud as:
Public cloud is one based on the standard cloud computing model, in which a service provider makes resources, such as applications and storage, available to the general public over the Internet. Public cloud services may be free or offered on a pay-per-usage model.
Private cloud is a type of cloud computing that delivers similar advantages to public cloud, including scalability and self-service, but through a proprietary architecture. Unlike public clouds, which deliver services to multiple organizations, a private cloud is dedicated to a single organization.
Hybrid cloud is a cloud computing environment which uses a mix of on-premises, private cloud and third-party, public cloud services with orchestration between the two platforms.

Advantages of cloud computing
Lower upfront cost and reduced infrastructure costs.
Easy to grow your applications.
Scale up or down at short notice.
Only pay for what you use.
Everything managed under SLAs.
