Mental health and social determinants of health in Black and marginalized communities I Dr. Hairston

Dr. Danielle Hairston (https://www.daniellehairstonmd.com/), a Double Board Certified Psychiatrist and APA Black Caucus President, raised our awareness of the interlocking structural, individual, and community level issues related to racism and mental health. Walking us through three studies of bias in medicine as well as how redlining impacted one communities’ access to health care, food, and other resources needed for wellbeing. She encouraged us to look not only at all aspects of someone’s ability to receive and manage their care, but the larger context in which they are receiving care.
