Embarking on the path to sustainable development will require a profound transformation in the ways we think and act; it will require knowledge, skills and attitudes. Former Head of UNESCO-UNEVOC Shyamal Majumdar, tells us about the importance of ‘greening’ education and why education for sustainable development (ESD) is crucial for a sustainable future during challenging times. Drawing from his experiences at Colombo Plan Staff College in Philippines and the UNESCO-UNEVOC International Centre in Germany, he suggests five major approaches in transforming the whole educational institution as we know it.
Shyamal Majumdar is a retired UN staff by designation, an engineer by qualification and thought leader by passion.
