Wiring a 5883H to a VISTA Security System

video thumbnail
In this video, Joe shows users how to set up a Honeywell 5883H Wireless Transceiver with a Honeywell VISTA System. As a transceiver module, the 5883H will allow a Honeywell VISTA System to support both one-way and two-way security devices. In other words, the 5883H can both send and receive signals.

A Honeywell VISTA Security System cannot support any wireless devices unless an add-on is used. This can come in the form of a wireless receiver built into a keypad, like the Honeywell 6160RF, or it can come in the form of a standalone module. The 5883H is an example of a standalone module. But unlike most of these modules, the 5883H is actually a transceiver rather than just a receiver.

The typical wireless receiver module for a VISTA, such as the Honeywell 5881ENL, 5881ENM and 5881ENH, are receivers only. They can receive signals from Honeywell 5800 Series Wireless Devices. This opens up the door for the user to use the wide variety of 5800 Series Sensors with their VISTA Panel. But the downside is that the user will not be able to use 5800 Series Devices that require two-way communication. This includes devices like the 5800WAVE Siren and the 5828 Keypad.

But the 5883H is a transceiver that can both send and receive signals. This means that it will be capable of supporting these two-way communication devices. Additionally, the 5883H can support as many zones as the system will allow, so the user shouldn't run into any zone limitations when using this transceiver module.

The device connects with a Honeywell VISTA Panel using a simple four wire connection. Both the receiver and transmitter portions of the transceiver must be programmed with the system in order for the device to function properly. The receiver is addressed using internal DIP switches.
