Mahashirsha Mudra - ”Gesture of the Great Head" that is for headache and tension relief, it is a powerful Mudras for Healing and Transformation. If you have a nagging headache at work that just won’t go away with a cup of tea, you can try performing the Mahasirs Mudra or the great head Mudra. This mudra helps relieve tension around the face, jaw and eyes which may provide relief from tension headaches. It may also ease symptoms from TMJ dysfunction (Temporomandibular Joint Disorders). TMJ disorders — a type of temporomandibular disorder or TMD — can cause pain in your jaw joint and in the muscles that control jaw movement. This Mudra is also known for instilling a sense of release and helps us let go of worry and anxiety. This release and letting go may also help headaches especially those that come from an anxious, tight mind and body.
When your eyes are glued to the monitor for a long time, it may lead to stress to your eyes, head, due to this, the supply of energy in the head region may cause pain in the head. Mahasirs Mudra can balance energy and relieve stress and headache. If the sinus causes you trouble, this Mudra can help decongest the frontal sinuses and reduce the pain. It is also useful to beat a migraine headache. It is also calming, centering, and clears your head bringing clarity.
Method of performing Mahasirs Mudra:
Sit comfortably on your chair, take a deep breath and exhale. Loosen up your shoulder, rest your palms on your thighs such that they face the ceiling. Then bring the tips of your thumb, index, and middle finger of both your hands together. Tuck the tip of your ring finger on your palm and keep your little finger extended. Keep your both hands on the thigh or by your side. Inhale and exhale and focus on breathing into your belly. Observe the fall and rise of the belly. Do it for 6 minutes and then relax for some time. Keep your eyes closed. You can repeat this Mudra whenever needed and feel your head clear and light.

Practicing this mudra in the morning will help you find a deep sense of peace and serenity. While practicing, if you find any pain or discomfort, please exit the Mudra and ask for the expert’s guidance.
