Family Tree Research in the U.K As a family historian I love attending the Who Do You Think You Are? Live show and at this year's event I caught up with Mark Bayley, Head of Content at TheGenealogist. Many visitors were being drawn to the stand by the huge graphic of a Tithe map and so it was no surprise when Mark explained about the National Tithe Collection that his company were making available through their site. That was by no means all as they had released over 5 million new Campaign Medal Records from the First World War and more than 750,000 new parish records. Finding your English/Welsh ancestry can be easy if you are aware of where to look for your ancestors and also which genealogical records to use. If your family tree includes forebears from the British Isles then as long as you know your way around the number of record sets and various different resources that there are, then it can be quite simple to build your family tree. Sometimes, however, a problem can occur when you hit a brick wall in your research. In many cases it will be possible to get around a brick wall by using a different tactic to winkle out the elusive ancestor form within the records. Other times it may just need you to find another record set to use, perhaps one that you didn't even know existed until then. The best solution, to the problem of ancestors that disappear from the records, is to learn more about the many documents, data research sites and archives by taking a genealogy course. The Nosey Genealogist has a really useful blog packed with family history tips and also learning material and a family history course that can quickly put you back on track.
