Who Were the Samurai? Were they real warriors or mythical fighters? |
|
In this video, I’ll answer the question, who were the Samurai? Perhaps no other historical figures have quite captured our imaginations like the samurai, who were members of feudal Japan’s warrior caste. Countless films have been made about them throughout the years, most notably the 2003 blockbuster, The Last Samurai, which starred Tom Cruise, and the Keanu Reeves classic, 47 Ronin.
But Hollywood is Hollywood, which is why these movies, as great as they are, tend to present exaggerations and falsehoods about the samurai. So, who really were these warriors? The samurai began as provincial warrior bands who rose to power in the 12th century, when they were tasked with backing up the shogun – the leader of the country’s military dictatorship or the shogunate. Thanks to their authority and support, the shogun carried more power over the country’s emperor, or the mikado. 00:00 Intro 00:18 Overview 00:46 Who really were these warriors known as samurai ? 01:52 Tokugawa period 02:31 By the end of the tokugawa period 02:37 Mid 19th century in Japan 02:54 Commercial treaty: Japan and the United States 03:46 Wrapping up ------------------- ✅Subscribe for more sweet, sweet content: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCk4ONqfctRvhFNRQfH3kufw?sub_confirmation=1 ✅Share this video with a friend: https://youtu.be/wqkLjtjRM-A ⭐Watch next – https://www.tubebuddy.com/quicknav/latest/UCk4ONqfctRvhFNRQfH3kufw Recommended Playlist – https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iCI5F2n1he0&list=PLXLJaqH1_pneKfVZLwrSgCDpdcXN95UUy&via=tb ✅Let’s connect: www.lets-teach.com |
