video thumbnail
In this vibrant discussion Professor Maya Jasanoff and Professor Patrick French reflect on the challenges they faced and the choices they made in writing biographies of Joseph Conrad and of V S Naipaul and Dorris Lessing respectively. Whether the literature these writers produced can be treated as biographical and to what extent fiction can be considered a guide to history were some of the questions that were addressed in this conversation. Professor French is the Dean of the School of Arts and Sciences at Ahmedabad University and Professor Jasanoff is the Coolidge Professor of History at Harvard University and a Visiting Professor in the Humanities and Languages division of the School of Arts and Sciences at Ahmedabad University.
