This episode does not attempt to make us sympathize with Eric, but it does want us to understand why he needed to calcify his sentiments for his own safety. His closest mentors were also racist against him. He got what he needed from them, though; he learned at their feet and followed at their heels. He learned to accept it. So he's not surprised when the individuals he mentored begin tightening the rope around his neck. It still hurts. How can someone dubbed "The Terminator" be reduced to this?
