Newly released surveillance video shows a suspect firing a shot at a security guard inside an Amazon facility in Madison County on May 12, 2024.
The suspect, identified by police as 22-year-old Hamsa Yusuf Ali, fired a semi-automatic handgun from within the facility on state Route 29. He was later shot and killed during a shootout with Columbus police where an officer was also injured. Amazon says Ali, a security guard, was a contractor assigned to work at the facility by a third-party partner. The surveillance video released Tuesday shows the moment Ali fired at his supervisor from close range and later shows him leaving the facility. Video from a camera above the security desk shows Ali walking into the desk area where another security guard is sitting and looking at his phone. Ali is seen looking around before he pulls out a concealed handgun and points it at the man’s head who had his back turned to Ali. The gun malfunctions and Ali is seen pulling it back down to recock it. He then points the gun at the man’s head again and fires it. Gunfire can be seen in the video and the other security guard is seen getting out of the chair and looking backward toward Ali. Ali and the guard are then seen running in opposite directions from the desk. Another camera angle shows the guard running through the warehouse area. Ali is seen walking in the same direction to follow but then turns around and goes back out by the entrance to the facility. He is seen throwing his hands up, with a gun still in one hand, before using his badge to get back out of the facility’s security entrance.
