Newcastle United manager Eddie Howe has confirmed that Jacob Murphy and Alexander Isak have suffered serious injuries in their 1-0 loss to Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League. Murphy dislocated his shoulder and Isak had a recurrence of his groin problem in the game at St James' Park on Wednesday night. They both had to be substituted and will join Sven Botman and Harvey Barnes on the injury list. Howe said that the injuries were a big blow for his squad, which is already small. He said that he was disappointed with the night and that he hoped his players would recover soon. Newcastle suffered their first defeat in Group F after Felix Nmecha scored the only goal of the game for Dortmund just before half-time. Newcastle hit the crossbar twice in the final minutes through Callum Wilson and Anthony Gordon, but could not find an equaliser. Newcastle dropped to third place in their group with four points, level with Dortmund. They will face Dortmund again in Germany in two weeks. They will also face Wolverhampton Wanderers, Arsenal and Manchester United in the next two weeks. |
