At some point in our lives we will probably live in a house or apartment that does not have air conditioning. Or there are other times when the power goes out or the place we are staying at doesn't have it. Perhaps there are times when you may have it but it can be so expensive to run that you would prefer to use less expensive alternatives. Or maybe there are some out there who are trying to live the off grid lifestyle. Whatever the case, there are many ways to stay cool and be comfortable with out having to have or run the AC.
1. Evaporative cooler (swamp cooler) 2. Ceiling fans 3. Floor/ desk fans 4. Fans with ice packs, etc. in front of it 5. Window fan to bring in cool air at night 6. Whole house fan 7. Energy efficient curtains 8. Window film/ foil/ mylar 9. Awnings 10.Close blinds 11. Sealing air leaks with caulk or weather stripping 12. Insulation 13. Light colored roofing 14. Avoid concrete, brick and stone on south and west sides of the house 15. Plant trees or vines to shade the south and west sides of home and patios 16. Arbors 17. LED lights instead of inconstant 18. Unplug unused appliances 19. Dry clothes outside 20. Cook outside 21. Drink plenty of water 22. Avoid caffeine 23. Eat cold foods 24. Misting spray bottle 25. Cold compresses 26.
