The science of relationships | Cathy Garner | TEDxMalvern

video thumbnail
Navigating the ups and downs of a relationship is not easy, and yet some couples succeed to live long and happy lives together. In this talk, the myth of love by accidental good fortune is cast aside in favour of a more determined approach involving joint effort, compromise and mutual understanding. Cathy is a relationship coach and portrait artist, with recent exhibitions in Bristol, Southampton, and Bournemouth and clients as far afield as Tokyo to Santa Fe. Drawing on decades of brilliant research from the emerging Science of Love, and her own MSc, exploring barriers to effective communication, Cathy has helped people on the brink of divorce to rekindle their passion and commitment, and individuals who haven't dated in years to find love again. She has 27 years' experience in leadership, organisational and personal development, has spoken at some of the UK's top universities, including Oxford, UCL, and Bristol, and has delivered workshops throughout UK and in Europe, India, and South Africa. Born in Ghana, Cathy grew up in Worcestershire, travelled for several years, walking in Gandhi’s footsteps and working for charities in India, before returning to Kempsey, formerly the UK’s most frequently flooded village, to lead a successful campaign for flood defences. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx
