OIL PAINT TECHNIQUE || Learn to Scumble like the Impressionists

video thumbnail
Scumbling is an easy, yet little known painting technique popularized by artists like Turner & Monet.

In this video I demonstrate how you can use scumbling, just like the Impressionist masters, to create a sense of atmosphere & energy in your paintings!

I used leftover paint from my day’s mixes to do a quick Turner-ish demo - so plz excuse the slightly muddy colours although it’s not far off the muted colour schemes that Turner used!

This demo is mainly about showing you the brushstrokes & lively application of paint needed for this technique.

In my video I used:

A well-worn & damaged brush perfect for this type of rough technique
(I recommend you keep old & damaged brushes for this reason, however you can also purchase scumbling & stippling brushes that work well)
