If you are about to drive a manual car for the first time or you want to master take-offs and clutch control, watch this video. First gear clutch release and smooth transfer of the power to the wheels explained. What happens when we raise the clutch pedal in a manual car? A clutch in a manual transmission car is used to transfer power from the engine to the wheels. The clutch has two discs, one connected to the engine (shaft disc) and the other connected to the wheels (the clutch disc). The engine disc is the moving (rotating disc) as long as the engine is running, and the one that moves the wheels is the static or stationary disk. When you raise the clutch, the two discs will join, and if the clutch pedal is let upwards suddenly, you will jolt or stall.

Transcript: Never stole a manual car again. Let's break down what happens inside when you raise your clutch pedal. A manual car clutch system has two discs. One is a moving disc that's connected to the engine, and the second disc is a static disk that's connected to the wheels. Why do a lot of people stall and jolt when they take off? The moving disc will engage the stationary disc on contact. If you don't execute the clutch pedal release correctly, the transfer of power from the engine to the wheels will be abrupt. The tricky part is matching the speed of the engine with the speed of the intended takeoff. You have to be gentle with the release of the clutch pedal upwards to transfer the power from the engine to the wheels smoothly and avoid launching forward suddenly.
