Powerful quake felt in Pakistan, Afghanistan and India but full extent of impact not yet known

The quake was also felt in the Pakistani cities of Lahore, Faisalabad and the mountainous region of Chitral. Office workers poured out of their buildings, including in the Afghan capital of Kabul, where United Nations workers rushed to safety. Vineet Gahlot, the director of seismology at the Indian Meteorological Department, told Associated Press the earthquake had a magnitude of 7.7 and an epicentre deep in the Hindu Kush region of Afghanistan. Pakistani state TV reported the same magnitude. The full extent of the damage and the number of possible casualties was not yet known.
