There are significant efforts made that focus on women empowerment in the peace and security sectors as well as empowerment of women directly affected by conflict and violence. Recent research and initiatives have explored how emerging technologies can contribute to this empowerment. This webinar will showcase important examples of inclusion of women in peace and security processes, while at the same time reflect that much more needs to be done. Gender data gap is another priority to discuss as we need data for guiding future policymaking.


Many organizations have led the way of using data and digital technologies in their fight against structural disadvantages, gender discrimination, and gender-based violence. Digital technologies have been used to collect relevant data, to share and create better information, achieve transparency and awareness, and increase women representation and participation in decision-making processes.


This webinar took place on March 30, 2021 where speakers shared examples on crowdsourcing and mapping the data to indicate violence hot spots and trends at a local level, and how they use this data to inform individuals, local communities and administrations to identify factors that lead to violence and inform better solutions. This session also served as a platform to discuss the potentials of machine learning and natural language processing to contribute to this work and showcase some examples of partnerships created to tackle gender violence and empower women for action.
