Santo: Kane hat-trick "important for everybody" | Tottenham 5-1 Mura | Group G | UECL | 2021/22

Harry Kane came off the substitutes' bench and scored a hat-trick in 19 minutes as Tottenham Hotspur thrashed visitors Mura 5-1 in Europa Conference League Group G.

'Spurs' looked to be in complete control of the game after Deli Alli and Giovani Lo Celso both scored in the opening eight minutes.

Ziga Kous pulled a goal back for Mura in the early stages of the second half though and it was only after the triple substitution of Kane, Son Heung-min and Lucas Moura in the 59th minute that Tottenham got back on top of the Slovenian champions.

0:00 SOUNDBITE (English): Nuno Espirito Santo, Tottenham Hotspur head coach:

"I think it was a good performance. I think we started very well. Honestly, we started the game very strongly. The energy of the boys was... important, and it's always important to start the way we did it. We scored, we scored again. We dominate(d). The only period, I think, is the beginning of the second half, that we lost a bit of control. But the reaction was good to their goal and overall I think a very good performance."

0:24 SOUNDBITE (English): Nuno Espirito Santo, Tottenham Hotspur head coach (asked if Harry Kane's hat-trick was important for the striker's confidence going forward):

"It's important for everybody. I always insist... the more important thing is that we have all the players in the best, the best they can be, because all the squad today was important for players that, they didn't have too many chances (to play). They played 90 minutes. To have... for the future, it's about preparing (for) what is ahead of us. So all the squad is needed. So, one of the jobs and the tasks that we (coaches) have is to try and raise the levels of performance of all the players."

0:58 SOUNDBITE (English): Nuno Espirito Santo, Tottenham Hotspur head coach (asked whether his triple substitution of Harry Kane, Son Heung-min and Lucas Moura was pre-planned or if the game called for it):

"I think the game need(ed) it. And the best way... was to have the players on the pitch. And they brought the energy the team needed. Definitely. The team needed in that moment the energy, and it was good. I think it was good for the team, it was good for everybody. Today was important, to perform like the way we did, to (get a) good result. This way we recover better, we prepare (for) the next (game) better. So a lot of positives."
