JOEL KLEIN is the CEO of the Education Division (now called Amplify) and Executive VP at News Corporation. Prior to that, Mr. Klein served as Chancellor of the New York City Dept. of Education. He launched Children First, a comprehensive reform strategy that has resulted in significant increases in student performance. He is a former Chairman and CEO of Bertelsmann, served as Assistant U.S. Attorney General in charge of the Antitrust Division of the U.S. Dept. of Justice, and was Deputy White House Counsel to President Clinton. Mr. Klein received his B.A. from Columbia University and earned his J.D. from Harvard Law School. He was selected by Time as one of ten People Who Mattered in 1999, and by U.S. News and World Report as One of America's 20 Best Leaders in 2006.

In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group.
