Why would I call this pop punk? I grew up listening to bands like blink, sum41, simple plan, social distortion, less than jake, zebrahead, alkaline trio, and anything else i could discover on limewire. The core foundation of pop punk is simplicity and repitition paired with an extremly easy, yet catchy melody. That was my approach with this riff - how could I emulate the likes of "dammit" by blink, but also bring in elements of the growing genre of midwest emo/mathrock? There are very stereotypical elements to midwest emo like the bending of the 3-note in a key. Add both of those two elements up, then put it through my dumb brain, and you get something like this. --- Check me out on insta: https://www.instagram.com/hel0jen/ --- Gear: Modded Fender Jazzmaster (Chicago Music Exchange): https://www.chicagomusicexchange.com/products/fender-player-jazzmaster-shell-pink-wolympic-white-986357 Neural DSP Archetype Tim Henson Fortin Cali Suite Universal Apollo Twin X Fujifilm x-t3 Adobe After Effects Bunch of free-ass plugins |
